in the coffee shop

mind the blonde

girl in the corner / she has a twin

their voices the exact same, same exchange, high chirp, nasal

loud like bells in late afternoon middle school sweat, no ac

chatty w business & look at me

mind the music

since the season came on

unlikely to catch

the rhythm you’re on, loud like back a the barn banter roosters mawing at nothing but ground

mind the button up

dudes, they’re not corporate we’re too small a town

most likely christians

and they like a crowd

mind the kids

they’re working

we take it serious this hourly wage &

no grind but ourselves, all we have to give
